Lost Marbles

I had this idea for the degree show, but never had the chance to actually present it. It seems I was too late by about a week.
The idea was is each person to have their own 'marble' that illustrates their unique style. A collection of these globes would have made a colourful complement to the exhibition space. The title (I thought) aptly communicated the last four years.
Here were the ideas for 'marble' placements.:

No waste, it's good for the portfolio. :o)

Sign Scrabble!

This is the second design I have came up with for my degree project. I think this one is strong. Matilda suggested "Competition' as a word to look up. It was an excellent idea. She also recommended that I make a film, where people play Sign Scrabble. - First the nightmare of getting the tiles made. Laser cutters are not as agreeable as one would imagine...I have wasted a whole week trying to get my at work from Illustrator to a decent .dxf file that the laser cutter could read. No such luck so far. But the game's rules are coming along nicely. - The following blurb, below the picture is one that was sent for the catalogue and other publications that supposedly 'promote' our work.

Cooperation refers to an activity where people choose to work together. The term seems to be the antithesis of 'Competition'. There is however an interesting paradox as competition motivates and encourages cooperation. I am developing tools to aid this process. The image shows a prototype of a 'Scrabble' type game which is played by Sign Language and hand shaped letter tiles. The primary aim of the game is to introduce a different form of communication, which may enable a wider scope of cooperation, using competition as a motivator.
